The Team

White Rabbit Security was founded in 2015 by Martin Bartosch, Dr. Oliver Welter and Scott Hardin. Our team combines decades of experience in IT security, cryptography, PKI operation and software development.

Our experts have many years of project experience in demanding environments – from banks and government authorities to energy suppliers and industrial companies through to IoT and cloud infrastructures.

We are not only consultants, but also developers. We code in Go, Perl and C, know the common cryptographic toolkits in detail and work routinely with hardware security modules from various manufacturers. When a problem requires a tailored solution, we can build it ourselves.

The WhiteRabbit Name

The name is a tongue-in-cheek homage to the many White Rabbit quotes of pop culture: Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland", Jefferson Airplane, The Matrix – and many more. We like the association with hidden mysteries and the curiosity to pursue them. "Follow the White Rabbit" is more than a quote for us – it describes quite well what we do every day: follow the trail until we have understood the core of a problem.

That is why we combine deep expertise in cryptography with hands-on experience from countless projects – for solutions that work and endure.

Our Values

We understand cryptography in depth – and know how to apply it practically. Our dogma is RFCs and standards: PKIX, PKCS, the recommendations of NIST and BSI.

Independence

We advise vendor-neutrally and find solutions that fit your organisation – not the other way around. If a product from another manufacturer better suits your requirements, we recommend it.

Security means taking responsibility. We stand by our commitments – technically and organisationally.

Commitment to the Open Source Community

We are convinced of the open-source idea and actively live it. White Rabbit Security is the team behind OpenXPKI, one of the leading open-source PKI solutions, as well as clca, a proven solution for offline root CA environments. We continuously develop both projects.

We offer our customers enterprise variants of these products: open source as a solid foundation, augmented with extended functionality, professional documentation, integration and consulting services, plus support and maintenance. We like to call this "Open Source plus X".
